Copper roofing nails? From your local builder's merchant.

An absolute pig threading the rope inside the copper elbows! I even used silicone oil and grease. Then "crimped":

Lined with some wide DPC stapled on. Blinged up with the 9x1 copper strip left flat. Fixed with solid brass panel pins from Hobbycraft:

It is. There used to be an old boy went up there and helped out doing a few odd jobs. Seems like I've taken over!

Quite nice that the kids and I all had input on it.

Paid in pints & crisps.

I don't ever really have to buy materials per se. The scaffold boards were literally scrap, the copper band a freebie etc. Screws I got on clearance when they were "giving them away" at Screwfix. Some time, glue and leccy.

The pub needs all the help it can get & I need the pub!

@DAPPH ? One for you maybe. I was thinking to drill some holes in the base then run round them with a router to radius or chanfer them. Then whack a bead of mastic around each and line with the dpm. When stuck puncture where the the holes are. Not sure on how many holes / what diameter. Or even whether to V the base in two pieces slightly like a keel.

3D print trumpets to sit in the holes adding a further bead of silicone . Trumpets can have a mesh printed into the bell end , 3/4 inch max dia of the tube as there will rarely ever bee a lot of excess water in the planters that requires heavy drainage. The moisture route out also takes in fresh oxygen this in turn feeds bacteria which eats dead plant lmattrer and produces nutrients for the flowers ( Humus ) .
Feeding the planters with neat rabbit poop and raking it in the top 35 mm then watering then planters s a good way of adding a fantastic manure that produces very vibrant coloured flowers .

Too late , x8 3/4" holes in the bottom. Run round with a 1/2" radius bit. Covered in compost now.

Gold oil paint in the recessed letters did.

Inside the trough I just creosoted it and stapled on DPC. Didn't attempt to paint the inside with black bitumen in the end.

Geraniums and labelia going in once the frosts have finished apparently.
