Just reading up I dont think I can join a scheme. All I have is 2330 Level 3, 18th (and 17th before that) and EAL Part P.

2330 isn't an NVQ so I imagine it's a no go. Keep debating doing the 2391. When I could have & cheaply (pre the 2394/2395 debacle) my job was iffy so I didn't. £450 it would have cost me!

Got quoted £250-300 recently for a landlord's EICR.

Its £600+ yearly subscription so if you have one property i wouldn't bother. Im going to have to join as the guy i worked with has quit the industry.

Nearly left me in the muck as we had just rewired a renovation job. !!


I'll be doing the 2391 when life resumes its probably the only respected ticket left!!

A bit cheaper in the Midlands, I got quoted £180 inc VAT for a 3 bed property I let.

£20 a circuit is pretty standard.

Eicr are odd they should be done properly and that takes time

More and more they are poorly done and rushed for to much money

It's just a race to the bottom ending with "drive by" EICR's

See it regularly round here drive by EIcr, some of them are absolute gobbledygook.
I am with Stroma at the moment but they have been bought by napit so no longer taking new people but they were the cheapest at 300 ish quid. I don't want to pay nic rates just for the name. Besides I am mainly agricultural and commercial, I only have it for one kitchen fitter and when doing the farms you always get asked to do the houses there too! If it wasn't for that I wouldn't bother at all, I probably only do 15-20 notifications a year this is part of the reason I begrudge paying £600.

With any luck they will continue to reduce part p though that wont help either.

It is nearly pointless now with the amount of things taken out of it at the last shake up!
There are plenty of really good qualified sparks out there that don't touch domestic and for very good reasons. I try not to if I can much prefer proper heavy work and no carpets to wreck!

What is the colour convention to use?
Brown for permanent live, brown sleeved grey for switched live and blue sleeved black for neutral?

Brown is the switch
Grey neutral
Brown permanent

Or as the iet call it deneutralising black

I had a peach of a job

Next junctions box its the neutral.

That job bought my tracer, what I expect to be a week digging up swa took 10mins

You always knew where you were with R/Y/B colours.

Would you sparks R1/R2, resistance, insulation etc test basic changes to a domestic system i.e adding a spur off a socket ring main, errr, adding a fan in a bathroom etc.

I do before i do anything. Ive found some proper shockers

I suppose for example if you change an old rewireable board for a new one there could be a shed load of existing faults that will trip an RCD but wouldn't melt fuse wire, that you end up having to sort if you didnt identify first.

Totaly agree I've seen some proper winners, sometimes it amazes how no one has been killed!
Definitely test everything before and before restoring supply just in case!
