Protecting scaffolding poles in the ground ?

I have seen some of the industrial type heat shrink stand up to some serious abuse and harsh environments so stopping some lime should be no problem.

Just winding some electrical insulation tape around the pipe should be just as effective.

make the concrete a little higher than the surrounding ground, and make it slope away from the pole

the point where the pole goes into the concrete is going to be the point under the most stress, and the point most likely to rust

I would give it some thought. I had a line pole rot right through once. It looked in pretty good condition and had been holding washing since I moved in to the house but little did we know that it was rusting from the inside. Anyway it snapped one day and fell on my 9 yr old daughter. Luckily she was sitting on the side of an inflatable garden pool and it fell across her legs without leaving so much as a mark. If she had been further away or not sat on the pool I dread to think what would have happened.

I replaced both line poles with more tube but one is sat in a kee clamps socket on the floor and the other is sunk in an acrow base in the ground so both can be removed and inspected.

My neighbour put a slight slope and then a bead of silicone around the base which he replaces every so often not sure it's needed but it seems to works for him

I know its a long while ago but I thought I'd add the method we used to support a 25 ft by ten
Apex wooden roof carport structure using 2 x 2inch A frames to keep it light with approxamately a 1ft Apex
for the first 20 years it was covered in plastic but last year in 2023 considering the price of plastic corrugated
roofing sheets we went with light 10mm ply sections and roofing felt.
Initially we banged in scaffold poles six of them with a very large sledge hammer down to a depth of 2ft
we filled them with clean new 20/50 engine oil and welded small 5mm tabs to the base at ground level
to prevent them from sinking into the ground any further. the welding boiled the oil inside the tubes
you could actually hear it boiling, this year spring 2023 I drilled each scaffold tube working my way up to a 10mm hole
slightly above ground level about 12" I then bought a can of waxoil and took the lid off and warmed it on a portable camping gas stove.
I mixed 2/3 waxoil to 1/3 white spirit and warmed the scaffold tubes with a blowtorch to prevent the wax solidifiying above ground level in the cold metal tubes then I injected the mix into the 10mm holes until the wax poured out of the holes.
This is the mix I have been spraying all of my vechicles with over the years to prevent rust.
I then inserted some 10mm rubber grommets into the holes. Im keeping my fingers crossed it works.
