I know you can use propane for cutting steel for I've oft cut 4 inch thick bars and H section girders with it and oxygen from bottles.
Does any one know of a propane welding torch set up that could be used on smaller thin stuff up to 1.5 mm thick. Possibly getting the oxygen from a dry air line off a compressor or from oxygen bottles ( as a last resort.)
Now for the plastic weld stuff
Years just past the middle of the last century ago I used a 110 v welding device to weld plastic.
Basically it was a 240 tyo 110 v transformer with a rehostat device, a rubber hose, a nozzle head & stem tube in an acetelene welding torch & an insulated heating element wrapped around the stem of the torch .
The shied gas was nitrogen and once depressured to suitable levels you set the flow to about 0.5 litres per sec and switched the mains on , you then used a chart to locate the melting point of the plastic and adjusted the rehostat till you were able to get the temp set ( using a thermocouple sensor in the kit )
I managed some " rare welds " on all sorts of things but have never come across the plastic welding gear since .
Can anybody shed any light on this dark art by giving suppliers names and advice ?
