Hi, Im just trying to chase down a issue with my propane fired furnace, it will pilot light, but the pilot becomes progressively worse, then when the air valve is opened it slowly blows the flame out even with the flame faliure device bypass button operated.
Pointy sticks have been pointed at the furnace itself and found no real issue that I can see (theres not a LOT to go wrong really its just a pair of valves and a compressor, with a flame faliure device to chop the gas if it blows out), the reg is a high flow one that was in previous service on a bullfinch torch too. The bottle is a new full one, to replace the one I emptied...
Now, when I open the bottle to atmosphere with no reg (outside, away from source of ignition of course) I get full blast flow for about 2 seconds then it eases off to more of a trickle. In fact you can almost stem the flow of gas by putting a finger over the outlet...
It does this on its side (but liquid propane is emitted instead of gas) with the same results. Im thinking the valve is fubar somehow, but since I never used one in a application that wanted all the flow of the high flow reg before, Is there some kind of flow limiter going on there, or are they just a dip tube inside a pressure vessel with a valve on top? Is the propane not transforming from liquid to gas fast enough to cope or something?
Also if it is the bottle at fault, how is it doing this? something rattling up and down inside the dip tube or something?
Id just take it back, but Im not relishing the battle with the supermarket and would like to be on sound technical footing before getting into a major public row...
Hope this is in the right bit malc, didnt seem to fit in the shield gas section...
