Delis do rot if not wax oiled on import
rear bumps stops go through chassis at the rear and the front cross member mounting rot scrapped the last one for that
to repair the front end the whole engine box and cross member has to come out im
afraid to do it right

Fortunately, it's not that bad yet. The inner chassis at the front is pretty sound - it's just the usual rust worm holes either side of the bump stop bracket behind the road wheel... and possibly a couple of patches at the back. I'm surprised the the original owners don't waxoyl them on import what with spending all that money...
And I certainly don't feel safe having a go, my recent attempts at blowing holes in steel with the neighbour's arc welder eventually resulted in suitable bracketry to put an Elantra interior into an Accent, but my Delica really does need to find someone who can really do a good job (not me).

pull the bits of rubber flaps up near the front cross member up normally worse on the inside of the lower bits that the lowest bit of the chassis so any water etc just sits and rots through also if it has dual battery's any acid leak runs down inner wing into chassis rail due to numptys fitting wrong size battery so they end up on a tilt so edge of battery is on a sharp edge so it wears a hole in the case and leaks

you will find the back end its a lot worse than you think if it's gone at the side and behind the wheel they also rot at the rear end as well about 18in behind the rear wheels some bits are double skinned so rots from inside out

Yeah, Mitsy really made a mess of designing the drainholes. I've got this side stripped right down - the other side was fine and I've got it all painted up, made new flaps and my own drainholes - I just put a 6mm drill through the lowest part. Getting the waxoyl in there is a problem too, unlike the Pajero, all you've really got are the tiny 5mm holes for the plugs that hold the flaps on - schutz gun won't go in there, so it's (kerching) aerosols or the old school pump up Waxoyl can... what fun.

Fingers crossed for the back end then - given it all a damn good hammering and only a wee little bit was crumbly, but as you say - you never know what's going on inside....

After extensive scrubbing and banging, pre-undersealing, I've found a wee hole in the chassis of the old Paj.. It's in the rear arch just behind the back wheel. If anyone in the area fancies a bit of extra cash - let me know. Otherwise it's off to the garage... Ceredigion/Carms.
