Project BBQ

So I have some steel and have ordered a 55 gallon drum and want to make a bbq/smoker from it.

I read some things and seems a mig welder is best for this job, but i know nothing about welding at all!

Can anyone start me off on what type of welder to get, how much a decent second hand one goes for etc? That would be great thanks!

like a lot of things how long is a piece of string
how much do you want to spend you need a lot more than just a welder i suggest you read the tutorials on the forum and look at you tube videos to start
basic welder, gas regulator, wire, auto helmet, grinder, cutters,clamps, etc say £500 to start
don't buy a used welder without seeing it welding and take someone with you who knows how to weld too much stuff sold on fleabay that's not what it says it is

Yeah it will turn out to be a very expensive BBQ unless you're planning to expand your welding career

To be honest if it's just this one project you have in mind, then a drill, some bits and a handful or two of nuts, bolts and washers could do a decent fist of the job without spending money that you don't need to.

Ive made a few BBQs in my time. Before I had any welding gear I used an angle grinder, some nuts n bolts and pop rivets and basic hand tools. That's was nearly 20 years ago, it's still going strong and one of my Favorite BBQs, it's made of a stainless steel beer drum

Another vote for the pop rivets. If you buy the right size, they can hold almost everything.
In a BBQ, at least. And you will buy a lot of meat with the money saved.
