project,,1 first attempt of a plazma cutter(fuel tank)

hi all i thought id have a go at makeing a feul tank for a my project car , along with loads of bits ive done,
bought it off ebay as it wasnt arcing , so 2 hours checking over the machince find a buggard relay , so after replaceing it i thought id give it a try on some stainless , cuts 5mm plate ok , but this is only thin stainless sheet
reall wish i had a tig welder at the time , due to have to mig weld it with argon gas , still ended up fine with no leaks ,,

plazma cuts nice not bad for 60.00 , and was new ,(storage damp must have been the problem)

thought lets have a go at meg weldeing 130am snap on
quick read and give things a try

then bit of shape added baffles and weled the rest up

ok for first attempt with a plazma and a welder i reckon ,,,

stainless with argon gas is that correct?it melted well while welding ,,

lol its for my vw caddy pickup , tuck me around 12months to complete , bit of spec here
r32 engine turboed , 6speed gearbox(stripped changed converted) electronic steering, 4wd ,among home made intake , exhust manifolds, floor pans, dash conversion huge turbo, home engine mounts, all sorts to be honst , says buy bye to these evos ,,somethign i supose theu dont exspect from a rough looking caddy lol

You could always go back over the welds with the tig torch to make it look tigged

I did an 18g mild steel one for my car and it was airtight first go. I folded a square up, welded along the join and then fitted ends to it. I cut the hole with an Aldi hole cutter set for the filler neck and welded a compressor fitting on for the fuel outlet to jubilee clip to. It worked fine for the 8 years I had it. I cut all mine with a nibbler, a plasma cutter would be a great addition to the shed.

nice one i have a ir nibbler which are a sound tool , it just works out easyer and a better cut with the plazma tbh for me , as the nibbiler sometime left a unevern edge on the steel when cut

The nibblers are handy, as long as you don't have push bikes around, as one of them little crescents are definitely going give you a puncture

havent really done anything ,other then weld pannels on the outside of the truck,

it is finished , as i pref the rough look , its more suited to the work i do with it (moving rubbish/scrap/engine parts etc
