My Advice = if you like it, want and have enough sheckles then buy it

Play with it and sort out any issues you find. Everyone can say this is worn and that’s wrong, but until you know what it means, it’s meaningless

Thank you. I have decided against it. It would be another project and that would be an issue. Hopefully I would be able to use it as is but I will be giving it to a charity in a couple of years and that would mean making it respectable. Another project would not be wise until I retire. Thank you again.

Sold my fully restored and converted to single phase bench mounted progress 1 for less than that last year.
A good solid drill, but for me the drawback was lack of a backgear, meaning it didn't go slow enough.
It's a heavy old beast to shift too.
As a project, and if I really wanted one I wouldn't want to give more than £200

Hi, I'm looking at a bench mounted progress No.1 Mk2 at the moment, can you remember the weight of it? Seeing if courier is a viable option.

That's light. The Progress 2 is about twice that.

Have a read on lathes.co.uk- there are a couple of different models of the No.1 and the early ones have a very small morse taper in the quill. In any case, that’s way too much for that condition. My lad bought a mint one for £350 a couple of months ago.

I saw that post. That must be for the floor standing one. Can the bench one really weight that much?

Old pillar drills, even the bench models, are usually bloody heavy.

For example, there's no way on earth I would ever try carrying my Pollard 1FX complete. It always has the base & column split for moving. I take the motor & mounting plate off the column too.

I get that. I work a lot with old marine diesel engines and although I'm not saying 150kg is wrong, I can't see there being enough material in the bench version to get to that weight, that's single cylinder diesel engine and gearbox kinda weight.
