Plus you cant get done for speeding via the tacho alone.
They have to pull you there & then.

The ones doing 70 have no tacho or its disabled.

Does anyone ever check the tacho's then? I thought it was quite a serious thing to remove/interfere with it if it should be in place?

Legal ones wont be speeding they are limited to 56.
Illegal ones are either disabled or remapped to show legal use. Or just dont care as they are registered out of the UK & apart from the on the spot fines its hard to enforce.
Yes they get checked if you get stopped & checked for driver hours etc but they cant show you were doing 56 in a 30 as they dont use gps (yet).

I find a sharp dab of the brakes usually gets the message across if they are tailgating me. Worse in the stupid 50mph roadworks on the M3 they seem to think they'll get where they're going quicker if they are 6' from my rear bumper.

I find ringing up the firm, if sign written does a lot to help, I start with, do you carry organs for transplant? when they say no, plastic pipes I explain whay I have taken he trouble to ring them whilst following one of their lorries doing 65 in the outside lane of the M1,

Absolutely missed the point here - you have to mave alongside to pass, if that means you are at some time in his blind spot there is nothing you can do - it's not hard to look over your shoulder....

That’s common as well. BMW are known for it. They do it to get the visibility. Also because, and I’ve know idea why, coppers are like sheep when it comes to buying a car. They just buy what they drive at work. Last thing I’d do.

Woman up the road spends all day in an X5. Her own ride is….. yup, an X5!!

When you've finished a gruelling shift the last thing you want is indicator's on a different side etc... I guess

I always give lorries and coaches a wide berth especially on motorways. Even overtaking a lone truck, I'll use lane 3.

I thought it was all regulated more heavily than you suggest it is so altering these bits of kit would get caught out pretty quickly. Not much point having them if noone checks or there are no real consequences for not using them/tampering with them.

BMW and Volvo are two of the most comfortable cars I have ever owned. That might be why - if you can spend all day in one on traffic without getting out with an ache then I guess you would be happy to drive one home too.

Whatever the reason, the job cars and bikes are popular as a private purchase. Releasing them to the Police at cost must pay dividends in the end with extra purchases.

Police cars are often development vehicles for the manufacturer. They have extras not normally available, and data collectors onboard. I suppose they are driven to extremes and well maintained so it’s a good proving ground.

Quite a while ago while Senators and Omegas were the M62 traffic car of choice, one of the officers based out of the then small Police post at Hartshead Moor used to commute to work in a Reliant Robin - I bet indicators weren't the only difference on the way home . . .

I was washing dishes in the washup over the loading bay on the west bound side services

Over on the other side, one of the bakers used to turn up in a very nice TVR 350 . . . or a push bike . . . I guess it depended on his shifts that week as to whether he could afford the fuel . . . it was expensive then - somewhere around £1.50 . . . a gallon . . .

Most of the roads and motorways around here are so congested that its pointless to overtake anything , may as well stay on the inside lane and trolley along with the trucks while saving fuel..

I generally tend to stick in the lorry lane. It's rarely saving much time going faster, & you're not having to lane swap.
