A lot of our production welder like to "warm up" before starting and produce nice pieces of weld art?

Yeah...hate it too...
Besides, when the settings on your welder are right there's no need to do it! But unfortunately it's a tick a lot of guys (and girls) suffer from...
If i need to fiddle with my settings i always get a piece of scrap metal and throw it away when i'm done...
I still have a blob like that sitting on the edge of my welding table...will have to get the grinder out soon because once there's a small blob the other welders think it's ok to weld on it!! and it get's bigger and bigger!!!

They seem to think more = quicker so have the wire speed higher than necessary, pull the trigger so wire comes out then flash it against "sculpture" to remove excess wire.
I hate seeing that sort of thing over the edge of benches.
I hate to see it too, if you really need to burn wire off then tack a small piece of scrap to the leg of the bench, when it gets covered then simply break it off and replace it......simple!

I have to put my hand up to that one
they managed to smash the old one (no one would admit it!) so I replaced it and found the shroud on the floor when I had finished - it was one of those "oh b*gger" moments.Did remember the shroud when I did the opposite one though.

i missed one on a rather large 4 core armoured cable . the answer is slit it down with a stanley knife then fit over cable turning it round till the cut faces the wall with some black tape over the join its called bias = bodge it and scarper
