As we are having problems finding agency welders, the company is interviewing to find 7 employees to send on welding courses followed by in-house training by one of our experienced (proper) welders.
Thread tidied - 'any more girls' thread for flirty stuff please, let's keep this one on-topic.
Dunno about the PPE Stu, where i work it's the plant that provides us the stuff...
Does any one else get welders turn up for trials with absolutely NO PPE (mask, overalls, gloves etc.) ? I know if they bring some with them we are willing to give them some leeway/assistance.
One of the main problems today is a lot of "welders" aren't welders, they have maybe done a college course or worked for a company where they have only done one particular type of welding on a very limited range of material thickness/type/joint and don't have any experience in other applications, it's not their fault but job centres see they have welded and send then along to any jobs advertising welders without doing any checking
We get bombarded with enquires everyday from companies wanting welder training to the extent we are looking at getting back into it in a serious way, there is a real skill shortage right across the board not just for top quality welders
How do you find the torches cope with tacking, i.e stop starting all day, rather that running continous welds. (Apart from the bad treatment)
I bet the consumables suppliers are falling over themselves for your business
