problems with peugeot bottom link

Hoping someone can help I am fitting new springs to my Peugeot 206 was going well until removing the bottom link from the hub assy' the lower ball joint is part of the steering control arm and is held with a pinch bolt i have the bolt out but my problem is moving the arm down enoughto get the ball joint pivot out of the hub assembly I have had a scaffy bar tied to the arm with its inboard end bearing on a block of wood onto the chassis I can get it part way out but not clear to allow me to remove the strut am I missing something any help or advice would be greatly apprieciated.....Magnet

I normally smack a cold chisel into the pinch bolt slot to just open it a bit and sometimes have to jack up a bit under the hub/brake disc to compress the suspension spring somewhat and thus allow more travel to lever down on the bottom link. (not for a 206, but just FWD in general.....)

I hit the wishbone with a lump hammer until it drops. Be mindful that the driveshaft may fall out of the gearbox and leak oil.

Thanks very much for your suggestions I finally got it off by tapping a a chisel into the pinch bolt slot my next problem is the allen key recess in the top of the shocker was rounded out and the retaining nut is dog tight so I welded a bolt into the end and the b*****ds just snapped off. Anyone got a magic wand handy .........Magnet

Try loosening (but not removing) the three nuts at the top of the strut to allow some movement in and out of the strut not just the up and down.

take the strut off complete with mounting, then get some grips on it high up so any damage wont affect its performance then an air impact gun will do the trick spring compressed first of course

Personally I've avoided French cars, due to stupid engineering designed to increse maintenance time.

Does it have an anti roll bar ? Undo the drop link it might be stopping the bottom arm from going down far enough to disengage the joint. We bought a Citroen Berlingo last October and I haven't noticed any difference in the engineering from any other car we have owned. Front wheel drive is implemented just like the Ford or Mitsubishi we had and the diesel engine is same one as used in a lot of other makes including Mini or Ford apart from timing belt instead of chain. For the strut top it would have been an idea to knock the next size Torx into the allen key hole or take it somewhere with an impact socket driver to loosen it off.

I haven't noticed any difference in the engineering from any other car we have owned.

Have you got a clutch access plate? Can you reach the oil filter? I've found the absence of the former and the lack of access of the latter to be a common issue.

Last time I had to do a clutch on a Citroen it necessitated removing the block and separating the box!
