+1 for brother laser.

mine is ex nhs doctors office, so it did a 'lot' of work before i got it, (on its way to the scrap pile) with officially empty tonor cartridge (if you block the sense port you can get a nother few thousand pages out of it) and a totally worn out fixer unit...

How do you find the Epson heads for blocking / cleaning? Do you have to feed cleaner through the setup?
I assume you have a waste ink resetter also?

I have an Epson, as I have to (they have different head design to most others) but I hate the way they block, then Epson's waste ink counter that is designed to obsolete printers as it's not intended to be consumer resettable. My waste counter is on the firmware of the printer rather than the tank, but there are 3rd party utilities that charge you for the rest code. The ciss setup means cleaning fluids are hard, as it's a factory ciss (ecotank) so I can't just swap in a cart full of cleaner.

i have the proper epson resetter maintenence tool its the inkpad that has to be renewed or removed and a drip tank underneath it

firmware is on printer

as for blocking never had an issue with it but i also printed a sheet every week otherwise its run the system through a cleaner

my epson runs on 6 inks and i use the ciss print ink colours and only print a small quarter and spin around the a4 then print again week after then flip over

Mono lasers can be quite compact, the Samsung one we had certainly wasn’t massive, a little bigger than an inkjet but not hugely so. I’ve got a colour laser printer/scanner now and that is big, but that’s because it’s got 4 toner cartridges to fit in.

The other big advantage over inkjet is they don’t dry out and block if you don’t use them for a while, and while original brand toner can be expensive (compatible is generally reasonable though, and works well enough in my experience) it lasts for ages.

Laserjet 5L. Not made any more. Takes up little more desk space than A4 landscape, and a toner cartridge has lasted for years (kept in the dry and not used very much). Much, much cheaper than an inkjet in the long run.

That is the one I have, as I wrote in my post, printer fine, genuine toner cartridges rubbish. You must have been lucky with your cartridge.

I've had three Epsons and all died due to blocked heads. I don't know if it was the aftermarket ink but it put me off Espon for good. Now got a Brother mono laser for everyday and a Kodak photo quality, which I only use genuine ink, for colour

I’ve had a Samsung M2026w laser printer for some years now. Cartridge of toner was £10, lasts ages. If it packs up I will replace with a another laser, possibly colour.

Brother laser, did about ten pages last year, then printed 200+ pages this month without missing a beat. I got a network model, second hand, so all the phones and laptops can print. Plug into the router. No mess, no fuss.

probably print about 10 pages a month, just that when I run out of black ink it tells me I need colour ink as well?
I've just started to give a monthly sermon at my local church.
and I don't want to run out of ink at the wrong time.
I've got a hp Envy 5020 printer and the ink is a little on the high side.

when you need a new toner get a genuine cannon one - prob best to get one and keep it as a spare ready

by keeping it simple - black and white printer with no extra features you save yourself the headache of extra features you don't need - and there's less to go wrong

anyone printing a lot of stuff... I highly recommend the epson ink tank printers - you pop a cover off and put a bottles of ink in which drain in and fill it (ink bottles have a special nozzle and matching receptacle)

you can pay £50 for as year pass then get as much free ink as you need, just print a test page, scan it and send it to them (test page details how many prints you've done)

I've got 2 going, 1 prints a over 1000 pages a week, A4 pages of sticky labels - back and white but I set it to print in colour to slow it down a bit, otherwise the pages pile up, come out too fast and end up on the floor

another prints invoices etc.. probably 200 b+w pages a week, and then every so often we'll print out thousands of A4 colour price lists

important thing for an inkjet is to use it regularly, stop it drying up

for the printers I have (ET-4750) the waste ink tanks are cheap only £15 direct from epson, so they're no problem either, I haven't had to change one yet but I've got some spare ready


spent years paying a fortune for ink or toner, tried loads of options... these are defiantly the best for bulk printing
