Has anyone used the epoxy in this link

It seems ideal for spot repairs when I can't be bothered to mix up some 2k primer as I presume with this any unused can just be sealed and used at a later date, no good if the product doesn't work though. I found cellulose high build useless which is why I changed to 2k.

Not much help but everybody I know use and recommend the Lechlar epoxy, I've not used the HB and not seen it in any proshops

I have just sanded my bonnet to bare metal and have ran out of etch primer so was going to try some epoxy and that one is only one I can find in 1litre size at reasonable cost including postage, the water based I just noticed on same website and just wondered if it is comparable to 2k high build when doing repairs mainly because it would be easier to use and clean up after, I will still be using 2k gloss on top.

Yes mate you can use epoxy primer pretty much under anything, it's a little cheaper from here http://www.refinishsystems.com/product/754-199/HBBody125LEpoxyPrimerKit

doesn't look cheaper when you compare prices, but you will find if you put it in the basket with 1ltr of thinners and click checkout, they are cheaper due to who has already got the vat added

I have used the HB Body epoxy and it works well.

If you use the water based primer you will need another gun for it.

Neither epoxy or water based primer has the build of 2k high build.

I was offered this HB primer today in a local paint shop when i asked for epoxy primer, it seemed too cheap to be true so i was worried about the quality and didn't buy it. I didn't want to have to strip the finish and redo it over using crap products.

I've never paid more than £15 for a litre of Lechlar epoxy.

Where can you get it for £15? Cheapest I have seen is about £20. I have read good things about the Lechler hydrofan water based top coats too.

Colorite in Hanwell is £15 a litre

The alternative that was offered was akzo nobel at €100 per litre for both the primer and hardener ! Too rich for my blood. Another point on epoxy primers, do they have to be over primered/painted within a certain time ? I have heard they have to be painted within 24-72 hours.

The reason you over coat epoxy is that its not UV stable, you can leave epoxy as long as you like but when over coating it will need to be keyed whereas is you use it on a wet on wet cycle you can overcoat it after an hour.
The way I normally use it is epoxy the panel then key and do any filler work, then re epoxy, then hi build, then re epoxy, then colour but the cars i'm doing have to be perfect.
If I had a new perfect panel I would epoxy then after an hour go on with hi build, then flat, then colour.

There are lots of brands of epoxy primers ranging from £10 a litre up to £150 a litre, I've tried them all as some point and I still reckon the Lechlar is the best one around and a good price too. You would think that the PPG epoxy would be one of the best but all I found was it was one of the most expensive !!!

Outside my old workshop there was a 1954 Ford coupe that had all the repairs done and epoxied, it sat outside for 15 years in the epoxy and one day we keyed it up and painted it, its still out there winning shows so I would say you will be fine

I am interested in the water based as it would make things much easier for me as I would only need the airfed mask when applying the clearcoat so would make my prep work cleaner and reduce running time of compressor. Its the drying of it I am worried about as don't want to trap any water under the clear. Anyone any experience with this or Max Meyer HS filler aqua.

I have used a different brand of water based primer. It went on OK and wetsanded OK. But remember that it's a single pack product so can't be as high build as 2k. It is inert though, better than 1k solvent based in that respect.

Only my opinion but its not really suitable for home use.
