I’ve just seen an advert for an App Controlled pressure washer

who the bloody hell needs an app controlled pressure washer

WTF ?

That's an interesting concept .. no external controls other than a fully waterproof on / off button. Controlled by the owner of the washer so no operators or monkeys messing with things like soap & rise feeds or heat of the spray if it's a decent PW.

Yeah - my mate said he was going to wait till we were on holiday (obviously this was more than a year ago!), then come to our house and shout through the letterbox:

"Alexa! Play thrash metal!"

Did similar to my daughter who was being a lazy sod and didn't feel like getting up at 07.00 to go somewhere with us. But it was the massed bands of the Scots Guards playing Scotland the brave at 06. 30hrs

ive had a few over the years yes they only last a few years most of the time they die as people leave water in them then the water in cold weather freezes and it broke

Mine's nine year old . Last thing before putting it away whatever the weather is I disconnect the lance . Drain the lance , remove the input water hose pipe , let things drain a bit , then tilt the machine slightly forward & run it for three or four seconds to blow out the water within the pipe work and the pumps elements . In fact IIRC its the recommended thing to do on the Nilfisk . Being brass & ceramic elements or precision high grade plastic elements does not appear to be a problem if it's done correctly .

I was thinking of some of the large better hand car wash places where they have seven or more PW's in constant use .

With a brushed motor it wouldn't be my first choice, but may be ok for short jobs.
There was one a number of years ago that used a brushed motor and had a gearbox between the motor and the pump to run the pump slower. The manufacturer decided to install plastic gears in the gearbox which tended to melt when used for long periods

As he said, if it works its worth a punt at £60.

If you are only using it once or twice a year you could look at hiring something. You could hire an industrial engine driven unit that will get the job done in 1/4 of the time of any DIY washer.

If you want to buy new, the simpler the better. All those oddball accessories & plastic bits is more to go wrong.

Best combination is a Honda engine coupled to an interpump, simple & very reliable.

If you go to an agricultural retailer they often have a basic electric motor coupled to an interpump, again simple & reliable.

Interpump built their own unit called a TX12-100, we sold 100's of them with very few problems. Great little washer, I have one myself & it gets used regularly around a farm & is still going 30 years later! All it has needed is regular service items.

Something you need to consider is having a heavy duty 2.5mm extension lead running from a 30a circuit. A lot of these washers have a 3hp motor & running them on a poor supply overheats the motor quite quickly!

If you are tempted by one of the Chinese built engine driven ones like @8ob buy it from a reputable source, at least you will have a chance of having some sort of backup for warranty, parts & servicing. Lidl with their 3 year warranty is a good bet.

All bar one of my pressure washers have come from skips. Rarely have they needed anything more than a capacitor. Mostly Karchers, but that's not representative of anything.

Ive had a Titan one for years, bought because it was cheap. Used and abused since

Just gone to use my Karcher K4 and its leaking water out from inside... Very annoying that it can’t survive in a shed over winter...On the bright side I can take every bit apart using normal tools and spares for individual parts are available... £32 later it will be fully working again, you don’t get that with a lot of other equipment it’s either straight to the bin as the replacement parts make it easier to buy a new one..

I don’t imagine cheaper machines are this easy to fix...

In my defence I used an allen key to break the bolts, they were very long and I couldn’t be bothered to ratchet them out seeing as my drill was next to me

One useful thing I've found to have for my Nilfisk Alto is to have the 15 mtr extension hose so I can use it as a drain cleaner. Three houses using the same main manhole have caused my lower down the hill neighbour no end of problems when the " Lady " next door drops sanitary towels down the pan which blocks the exit pipe of the manhole . Using the drain cleaning head on the extension hose I've freed the blockages right through into the main street sewer four time so far .

The best thing I found was,to stop the water freezing,was to disconnect the water supply to the machine and run it for a few seconds on spray,to empty the tank.
