pressure pot - or old pressure cooker

A pressure cooker's working pressure is 15psi, I'm not sure what the safety valves pressure is.

im going to remove the fitted valve, and fit a 40psi one.
safety factors on pressure vessels a 4x apparently, so they should be good to 60psi.
ill do a waterpressure test up to 80psi before use - my guess is that the rubber seal is the weak point, and will start to leak, long before theres any failure of the aluminium.
thats how tbey seem to fail when the safety valves are blocked with food under their "normal" use. - and at least therell be no superheated steam!

You're quite right, I didn't think about the tiny Tee-piece in the rubber grommet

It would seem to be around 23psi.

Would this be any good? Opening is around 6-1/4" at its narrowest point, and the cylinder is roughly 7-1/2" tall.

Funny how that number keeps popping up. Looks like this old thing is 15psi.

TBH it does look like it can take more! Needs some work (full restoration) it's on my todo list.

Looks like glass on the front and it is getting on for half an inch thick.

the thought of glass under pressure terrifies me.
the slightest chip or crack would *really* spoil your day

Does make you wary of what appear to be low pressures when you see the massive construction in that container.

Glass is possibly the most stable product ever made by man. It is almost completely inert and will virtually last forever.

You should see the giant aquariums when they go I'm dreading the day it happens to mine nearby 4ton of saltwater but hopefully it doesn't happen but glass isn't as good as you think

I have an old autoclave that i use for degassing resin & as a vac reservoir for vacumn bagging, It was used for sterilising lab equipment at college but failed its pat test & was skipped, Operating pressure was 15psi . I blanked the safety valve & swopped the pressure gauge for a vacumn one. Works well. Must say i never heard of pressurising resins to get rid of bubbles, usually people use a vacumn chamber so the air comes out.
