What size/style of press would be needed/adequate?


Bearings would either be 76 diameter * 60mm deep. Or 75mm OD * 40mm deep.

Most will be OK to use,
It will be the attachment''s you add to make it correct for application that matter.

We have a 15ton sealey floor mount and can do most things with it right the way up to movano front wheel bearings,

^^ that's funny^^ because ive always just bashed them in with a hammer and drift, but chickened out when I had to do some movano ones.

applying heat/cold always helps.

Was hoping under £100 but maybe that's not realistic.

I had a brief notion to try adapt/convert my 12 ton pipe bender similar to this...but prob wont! Maybe underpowered? And still needs to be a pipe bender

I use the h frame on the end of my steel workbench and a 20T bottle jack.

A lot will depend on how tight/rusted in they are rather than the power of the press, I've had stuff refuse to budge with 40+ ton on it and others virtually fall out with a bit of heat and cold.

new ones go in much easier than old ones come out... so you could get away with a smaller press :-)

good point...it's for both......old out, new in

before i do anything think I'll take the ones that need doing just now to a garage to see how well whatever they have copes getting them out

Trailers usually use taper bearings, hammer n punch, possibly a welder if the hub assembly doesn't have any cutouts for bearing track removal.

I thought they were taper when they split taking them off the axle...figured out they weren't before Mr Chisel got involved tho

If they seize in anything like transit front bearings my 20 ton press wouldnt move them without help of heat from a buzzbox

For automotive stuff a 20 ton is loads. I've never gone above 8 ton pressing a wheel bearing out. If that kind of pressure doesn't shift it then i run a bead around the inside of the bearing and that always gets it moving.
