preservative spray to temporarily prevent rust on white metal??

Is there a spray or product or technique I can use to stop a mild steel panel from rusting after blasting but before coating?

I am going to need to leave a blasted and subsequently repaired panel in white metal for up to 2 weeks before I can take it to the galvanizing plant. Obviously I don’t want to prime or paint it as it would just need blasting again, but something like a spray preservative could be removed with the degreasant immediately prior to galv.

Obviously the galv process will include pickling in acid to remove rust and scale but I would like to reduce any build-up of surface rust if possible.

Its quite big (1.5m x 1m) so the product would have to be cheap or free – but I’m happy to reapply every couple of days if needs be.

Wipe it with Jenolite, it leaves a coating on that helps prevent rust, I have left some wings for several months in the garage wiped over with Jenolite.

Obviously must be left in the garage undercover. If water drops on it it will still rust.

A good wipe with an oil soaked rag will last years

Get a small can of gun oil, really good for this purpose. It will be useful in the future too.

Bloody messy, but chainsaw "anti-fling" chain oil is amazing. Have got some original unfitted MK1 Mini front panels, wings etc. in my old lockup. Was all I had to cover them nearly 30 years ago and still looked ok last May!

I used to use old car oil diluted with the same volume as heating oil or red diesel (To thin it down) mix them together pour through a cotton sheet to remove any particles and pour into a spray bottle and there you have it

I call it Miricle Oil

Ideal for spraying, rustproofing, etc its my way to recycle old engine oil and costs peanuts

ACF-50 comes very highly recommended, but is expensive for a small amount. Having said that, a little goes a long way.

There's no need to do anything,especially as it's only going to be exposed for 2 weeks, you should see some of the stuff that goes to the galvanisers, when you get it from the steel stockholders there's rust where the mill scale has peeled off,as stated above it's pickled before it's galv'd
