I have been asked to do a sort of presentation at a local technical college.
One of my cousins is a teacher there.
He uses my videos in some of his class work.
He recon's the kids will love me .
I was thinking on the lines of a brief history of myself.
Then a talk about how my youtube started.
If this goes well it could lead to more serious things.
I will be taking a couple of my engines to run on compressed air.
Quite frankly I am bricking it .
Any advice more than welcome .

Be yourself. If I had anyone like yourself to make a presentation when I was at college I think I’d have been over the moon. A straight talking person who has got on with it and done it makes much more sense to me than a lecturer who has been in the classroom for years (not to say that’s the case with your cousin). People with hands on skills to pass on to the younger generation are in short supply

I've done my fair share of presentations over the years.

Everyone bricks it (I don't care what they say!)...you'll be alright if you just be yourself and keep it simple...don't do jokes to begin with until you get a feel for the room.

Don't wear a light blue shirt...sweat patches...been there done that!

If you find yourself sitting in the toilets with 10 minutes to go just remember...you can happily just sit in the toilets all day...but presenting anything at all is better than sitting in the toilets all day!....one step at a time!

Tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you have told them.
Don't create a PowerPoint presentation that has in words what you are going to say. It confuses the audience because not many people can listen and read at the same time so the tendency is to ignore what you are saying and focus on what is on the screen.
Speak from the heart with the passion you have.

Can you video it and put it on your channel? It’s the sort of thing people would like to know more about.

Obviously you’d have to not video kids etc etc!!!

You’ll be fine. Once you get into it and find your rhythm it’ll be grand.

Edit- when I’ve had to do stuff like that I found an easy way to engage the audience is ask questions of them. Ie how much / how many …. And let them throw a few answers back.

Not explaining myself very welll but it’s more engaging than someone just droning on.

You seem happy talking to the camera so talking to a group shouldn't be a problem.
Do yourself a cribsheet with what you want to talk about in what order.
See if they have drywipe board available in case you need to explain any answers to questions.

Don’t overthink it, speakers with any sort of passion for what they do are always engaging and interesting.

You're kidding. They'll love you because you are authentic, the real deal. Kids can spot that a mile off, that and of course genuine enthusiasm for a subject which sadly, they don't get to see too often in schools.

Bullet points on a sheet in front of you in case you go blank- it happens!! Don’t, for the love of god talk down to them (not that I think you will) we’ve had some speakers talk to our lads like they’re 10, and the group immediately switches off.

Some will love it, some will sit there like sacks of crap. It’s how it is, remember- nowadays some are there purely because they have to be somewhere to claim benefits. Don’t take it personally!

Just be yourself above all, you’ll smash it

Just be youself, have a plan, even just bullet points / reminders, on a bit of paper, not a script.

You will be great and definitely take some stuff with you… even better if it’s stuff they can interact with too

I did this for a bunch of 7 year olds a while back, with 3D printers and laser cutters as the taking point. The only scary bit was how close they always seem to want to be to you, perhaps teenagers are more moody and distant? You’ll be great, just pace yourself, ask them questions and give them time to ask you questions (but if hands go up when you’re in the middle of something just ignore and let them hang). I’m a bit jealous of those students to be honest, I’ve learned a lot from your channel. Best of luck but you won’t need it.

Don't stand there like a bottle of milk. Move around a bit. Engage ask them! questions. It's worth it for the few children who will be interested.

Bullet points, talk to the back of the room. If your dry and running out of things to say, ask if anyone has an questions, it usually supplies pointers to continue on.

Lots of great advice already.

We often use Pechakucha at work, basically 20 slides of pictures and you talk to the pictures with a limited time per picture, you can modify this by extending the time per slide as appropriate.

It is handy as the pictures help keep you on track as you talk and they give the audience context to your talk.

May not be time to set this up for tomorrow, though it is an easy to use format.
