Prescriptions delivered by Mail

I live some distance from my GP Surgery and collecting prescriptions from them is often a pain. I know there are some services which will get the prescription on-line from the GP and deliver by post. Has anyone used one of these, and if so, how well did it work?

@Ross365 I'm glad you've asked this as I've been wondering the same... particularly with the amount of prescriptions I need (Type 1 diabetes) and the regular trips I seem to be making.

With the price of petrol and the amount of time I seem to spend fannying about getting all the things I need I'd gladly pay to get them delivered.

I think the service is "free" to use- they get paid by the NHS for each item supplied, and they take the postal cost out of that.

Remember guys that Scotland may be different from England in this respect, I get monthly checkups and pick up my prescription on the day, my Doc has offered to get mine posted out for me rather than having to wait for the results & meds to be made up so it can be done in Scotland.... I just wait as my last supply runs out on the Sunday after my Friday visit so I would be standing at the door on Monday morning waiting for the delivery

One of my local pharmacies delivers for free, in fact they don't do local collections at all. I think delivery has become more prevalent during Covid so it might be worth checking your pharmacies. My GP defaults to using Boots as they have the pharmacy in the same building, but on the online app I changed it to the other pharmacy, its worked like a dream for almost 2 years now. No doubt Boots will buy them out and charge for it soon......

Ours get delivered to an address in the village, we then collect from them

My meds are delivered by a local company that deal with everything , they send me an email each month to check if I need an order then deliver a few days later. No stress ,no trip to the doctors/chemists, no queueing ! Unlike our local chemists that never had stock / received the prescription after queueing for ages

My pharmacy delivers, no extra charge involved but I usually pick them up when I'm passing.

I use Lloyds direct - order repeat prescription from gp via “my gp” app, surgery sends prescription to Lloyds, they process it and post it out. As mentioned upthread works well for regular repeats, but takes about 5 days from start to finish. You get reminders as well to order next lot.

Most GPs now will send the prescription electronically to your chosen pharmacy?

Our GPs sends to pharmacy, who delivers free, great service.nofuel, and no ques.

At the beginning of 2020 I changed to Lloys online and it was brilliant, the pharmacist (who knows me quite well, called me up and more or less begged for me to go back and I did, but then his employers saw fit to move him to another branch, which I know is not good for him as he could walk to work previously and the new pharmacist is an ass. So I will be going back to Lloyds.

whilst im local to both doctors and pharmacy it dosnt bother me just to collect it

whilst it might seem your getting something for nothing ( free ), is it?

what are you really giving away

the question would be are you giving away your data so that it can be used

pharmacys can use your data to send you offers or other things like life insurance but thats using your data

whilst on the other hand you want free yet your taking someones job away no more face to face action

We are spoiled for choice with chemists, we email scripts in and can pic them up direct from the chemist we use or if we are bust they will drop them off, far better then how it used to be.

Thanks for the suggestion of Lloyds, which looks good and I will give them a try. Avoiding a 20 mile round trip sounds like a good move to me.

I've been doing it all electronically for a few years now; I ask for prescriptions online and they get sent to the nearest Boots... and then it all starts to unravel and come apart!

I didn’t say it worked!! Just the service was there

I regularly have phone calls with the pharmacist blaming the gp and vice versa

My local GP surgery is a dispensing practice, you have the consultation and as you leave you can collect the prescription, that's been picked by one dispenser and checked and checked by another.
