A friend has a 1959 Vauxhall Victor, it's been exempt for a few years now.
Can't see it making much practical difference really - when did you see a car/vehicle of that age on the road last in your daily travels? Imho, anyone owning/running one tends to look after it anyway, so it would be maintained well enough to pass an MOT.
16 hoursI have just put our van in for pre MOT. £1100 estimate to include 16 hours of welding! 03 Transit in otherwise good condition. Economically is is better to mend it, because a new van of unknown heritage would need painting and signwriting at the very least, so I will have to just suck it up, as they say!
I am not keen on the MOT exemption as many will take it as a green light to ignore problems and it WILL result in dangerous heaps being used on the road.
16 hoursthey are either very slow or your van is in a terrible state
