Practice needed!

OK - morning all - just scooped a mig off ebay and about to get practicing on odd bits of metal - been talking about starting welding for a few years now so here goes

Had some garages do welding on cars over the years and have never been really impressed by their work (or charges!) so thought I'd give it a whirl myself - easy stuff only to begin with.

VW Camper and Landrover both waiting nervously in the wings.......

Welcome Iain, You'll get to a better standard than those garages within your first 10 minutes welding (so long as you didn't buy a SIP or Wolf from eBay). Those garage guys tend to rush things and don't bother making the metal shiny clean before welding so their welds tend to be for decoration. Doing it yourself you get the time to cut the rotten stuff out and clean up. Your cars will be in safer hands with you at the other end of the torch. Let us know how you get on and ask away if you get stuck.

Hi Iain, and welcome, good crowd here as you probably have already seen. As you so rightly say an excellent place to share, the good and the not so good bits also a great site for the tutorials and picking up the hints and tips that the books leave out.
