Gasket easily 'tapped out' using a ball peen hammer and gasket paper - not so sure about the cracked gear

Yes..will make a new gasket.. got a huge roll of gasket paper and wad punches.. the looks cracked. But close up they are machine groves. Probably for gear oil .

Just got drive shaft to do and done...then hopefully I can carry on with my own stuff

Morning guys.
What a morning....finished gearbox. All complete and working. Rang customer. He came and collected after a verbal row. The guy moaned about the time it took. I explained it needed a strip down and some bits and pieces needed doing. Installed some parts that had been put it wrong by a previous owner. Made a complete set of gaskets ECT.. And the faffing idiot got humpy because I said I wanted £60. Personally i thought £60 was reasonable. I got my money and basically told him to f off .people do my head in !!!!

And to never darken your door again, I hope!! What a pillock, some folk have no idea of what's involved in some jobs which would be best turned down in the first place. You don't know that, of course, until you've agreed to it and started.

every body thinks its aways a quick fix oh that will be only a 10er and done in a few mins just 6 bolts and it all falls out

i would have prompetly pointed out that you are paying for my knowledge and not my time and you done the right thing get the money and tell him not to come back

i have done this as meny a time point less keeping people happy that are not good customers keep the good ones let the bad ones go else where they soon run out of places to go and then try and crawl back

But time alone you're not paying yourself minimum wage - I'm sure that you spent longer than 60/7.5 = 8 hours, then there are parts. Way too cheap in my opinion

Hi, Many years ago when I worked for the bus company the guys in the pit area at the works which was next door, were approached by a local independent coach operator who mainly ran Bedfords. He had got hold of an AEC coach that required engine work cheap, he had done most of the work but when he came to put the timing gears together there were no timing marks. Because we ran only AEC and Leyland vehicles, which were not common outside, he wanted them to come and time it up for him because they have a peculiar and set way of being done involving pushrod lift and the auxillary shaft (which drives the comp and injector pump) being set in the right place. Anyway the guys weren't really interested but offered it to one of the 3rd year apprentices for a fee of about half a days wage. He turned up at there premises, did the necessary checks and set up and dropped in the idler gears job done in about 15 mins. When he turned round for his money the boss started leading off about not paying all that money for 15 mins work. He did no more than pull the idlers and spun the camshaft and said "Good luck" as he walked off amid a load of shouting and pleading from the boss.

The boxing smiley wasn't a serious encouragement to resort to fisticuffs , that's never an answer but I'd imagine it would have been satisfying.
