Thoose gut buster type drills certainly take some hanging onto

Had a few sore knuckles! Last time i used one i twisted a 22mm bit clean off the shank!

mickjbriggs - Wow, that's a beast an' a half. I could drill for oil with that! Thanks mate, it's a step in the right direction. Nice rpms. I'll phone bosch tomorrow and see if they do something a wee bit smaller.

algreenplus3 - Record power do a bench drill. I can only speak for their floor standing pilar drill (DP58P) and 2 of their bandsaws. The base quality of their tools are quite good and it's just the cheap furniture that let them down really; The chuck guard broke in the first 10 mins and the no-name chuck was so bad it wouldn't seat on the arbor correctly. Replaced both with Rohm; 16mm chuck & mt2-jt3 arbor. Great machine now! 180 to 2700 RPMs. Good castings. 1hp induction motor. British company! Recommended.

They have a sister company called Startrite (I think) that look pretty good too, more industrial, although I haven't seen them in the flesh.

The old Startrite pillar drills seem to have stood the test of time, built like an outside convenience constructed of durable materials. Often see them advertised in the used machinery markets.

Don't like the look of that myself, reckon it would take you for a ride

I've let my 5/8" Wolf gut buster wind up its own cable a couple of times, fook trying to hang on to that if it snags...
