Hi, i bought a clark welder recently and i need some advice on a power outlet, can i run it from the socket in the garage, it has it's own line to the main fusebox with a 15amp breaker, also i have a compressor, do i need a specific kind of outlet for that too?

What is the top end amperage of the welder most Clarke's will run fine on a 13 amp plug, I have a 3hp compressor also on 13 amp plug and runs fine, with a 15amp breaker you may find it trips sometimes if your compressor is 3hp and if using the welder on higher power settings

Hi, thanks for the reply, my compressor is 3hp too, would just changing the breaker for a larger one suffice.

that depends on the supply cable feeding it. u could up the breaker to 20 amp but your still limited to 13 amp at socket. failing that loop a cable from behind the 13 amp socket to a blue 16 amp socket as a radial change the breaker for a 16 amp c type

Is the cable to the garage rated high enough for a bigger breaker

by rights it should be 2.5mm if its feeding a double socket heres a radial supply to a few sockets

wouldnt it be better doing a ring main with 2.5mm wire when having extra sockets in the shed or garage

but wouldnt that depend on your feed wire into the shed/ garage as 2.5mm is ample for standared stuff within a shed/garage but allowing extra output by a 16 amp socket wouldnt that overload the 2.5mm rating depending on its length in the first place

hese limited to one cable to garage on a 16 amp breaker on its own supply, a 2.5mm cable is -rated to 28 amp

I just had a look, it's about 10mm flat grey cable, i don't know if it's twin and earth or just twin.

ok then while im here 25m of 2.5mm twin an earth run to a fuse box in shed/garage, then run into a ring main from that fuse box

would a 16 amp breaker be needed within the shed as well as the house fuse box

would it run a 16 amp welding machine or a 16 amp plasma cutter

if its just running a socket I don't think it will be 10mm cable that will be the outer diameter including insulation . not the cable core size csa

it will have writing on it if you look closely
