power hacksaw 3phase conversion

I've been after a power hacksaw for a long time, most of the ones that come up affordable to me are 3 phase which I can't run. Single phase ones seem few and far between.

Would it just be a case of swapping the 3phase motor over for a single phase motor or am I over simplifying things? Would it be majorly under powered/not work on single phase?

Yes, an easy job to fit a replacement single phase motor and starter. They don't have huge 3 phase motors fitted so a conversion is an option.

You can just go for a more powerful 1ph motor. One thing to be aware of is if it's an old machine(they normally are) then the motor shaft is likely to be an imperial size. When I did mine I converted to a modern motor so had to bore the pulley and broach it to fit the new key way.

Or you could use a VFD to generate 220V 3-phase from 220V single phase which would work providing the motor can be configured for 220V

Thanks all for the info, I'm going to keep it in mind as an option that if a three phase one comes up for the right money/collection area etc that it can be converted for single phase.

if its a rapidor they only need a half hp motor . there geared down to about 80rpm so have plenty of torque .I have a 1/3 hp on mine and it can chew through a 3inch solid bar no problem

You can run a 400v motor from a 240v inverter if you can live with a reduction in torque - for a hacksaw it’d probably be fine...
