Power costs

Just been looking at a US site with a reference to electricity prices. They were using a figure of $0.05 per unit (kW/hr). Is this wildly out of date or is energy this cheap across the pond? W/A

Yes, in the last 2 years it has at least doubled. i used to be 0.05 now am at 0.11.

California is even higher as they import a lot. Those near TVA probably have it cheap as it is mostly hydro power.

Also depends on use. Some have lower rates at night and higher at peak times.

That still makes the unit cost about half of what it is over here. Do you have a fixed meter/supply charge on every bill as well? W/A

I pay 2.08 pence/kW-h off peak and 5.2 on peak, plus 13.95 pence per day whether I use any electricity or not. All plus 5% Value Added Tax

I'm with British Gas, my monthly bill is about £30. I recently changed banks for the direct debit and I haven't had any money taken for the last 3 months, that's what I call a cheap loan!

We set a record last month for the # of days over 100. Probably averaged near 95.

That was with 2 big window shaker A/C units. Just installed a 2-ton central unit. Nothing like "sweating" pipes in 100+ heat A bit small for the house. Runs all day non-stop Hate to see next bill.

We're at the other end of the jet stream, and it's been unusually cold and rainy in the UK this summer. Southern Europe got too hot and caught fire. Is that what caused the high temperatures over there? Apparantly it's shifted back to somewhere more sensible now.
