Powder coat removal

Sorry no help at all but I got to ask. If the primer is so tough, why would you need to remove it?

I've seen wheels where the primer hasn't taken in some places so you don't get a uniform surface to work on.

I suppose it's possible that some primer designed for paint won't take powder coat.

I think it would be bad prhactise and would look right if I coated over the old primer. I haven't actually tried it though.

Atlas-T has formic acid in it but maybe not enough. I have found another supplier that will do a wheel stripper, hopefully there's works much better on primer. Will ask them to confirm it will before I buy any!

Local powder coater and blaster does lots of wheels, nearly always two or three cars on axle stands outside when I go there with my bits of rusty metal . Next time I go there I'll ask.

dont know about you but id be trying it, id guess there is plenty at it if it can be done.

I live out in the country but my business is based near Falkirk.

Aha I did a lot of research before starting my business and Atlas-T appeared to be the best on the market but nobody mentioned it didn't work on certain primers. I called the company today and they admitted it didn't work on certain primers at all! Other companies are doing it so it must be possible!

My blaster won't even touch the primer. Will take off old paint in a second though

There are only two options....

Some form of grit/sand/ball blasting

OR

Why do you want to take off the primer if it is that well adhered to the substrate? Simply apply a powder primer over the top and then topcoat or basecoat and lacquer.
