Posting myself a pallet Uk to Germany.

Hi guys. I’m hoping some of you have some experience with this.

I am looking to post my welder (portaging 185) my compressor and some smaller tools on a double pallet to myself from Devon to Germany where I’m now living.

I’m hoping I can get it done cheaper then what it would cost me to drive over in a van. Or buy new gear

But I have no idea of a ball park or if I would get stung with customs charges even if I own it?

I know some of you travel abroad for work so maybe have experience with shipping some tools out?

Also if I remember correctly one of our members owns a pallet shipping company?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone yes it is I.
We can do this but not as easy as it used to be sadly.
Most companies won't touch personal effects or home deliveries into Europe any more. We still do it and can advise on the paperwork etc.

That helps a lot - otherwise there is often a non stack charge - only on International.
To give people an idea of just how hard it is now to send stuff to the EU just one of the UK pallet networks I know used to send 600 pallets a day into their Paris hub. It is now down to 30

Thanks guys. Good shout about making them stackable. I wanted to make sure they are well protected so I like the idea of a box over the top.

Looks like the sleeping accommodation in the corner is about the right size and the guard dogs look friendly...but noisy towards visitors?

I mean, that can be the only explanation, right?

You may find that it's simply not worth it.

If you have to pay vat AGAIN on your own possessions, and transport, it may be cheaper for just to replace the items with new German made units.

That’s my worry. But there must be mechanisms in place to ship things you already own to yourself somewhere else right? It’s not that much of an edge case

No we can do it as personal effects up to a certain "value" with no VAT.

Nope.
Different carriers. All the main ones we used to use are strictly B2B now.
The whole situation is a complete and utter disaster for Britain!

I've shipped containers full of personal effects to the Philippines, twice, and never had to pay import duty or taxes. And the Philippines is virtually the global kingdom of scams and ripoffs.
A good knowledgable broker is the key.

We have far less hassle with the USA and other countries. It isn't called Fortress Europe for nothing!

We had a company who had to pay a £16,000 VAT bill because they didn't get a T1 discharged properly.
And as a further deterrent to hauliers they will now charge £10,000 for every illegal immigrant who sneaks into your lorry. The usual way is to drop from an overhead gantry when a lorry is stuck in traffic and then cut through the roof with an angle grinder. so not only does the haulage company get fined but also have to pay for damages. The result? Very few companies will take the risk any more hence prices going up and up.
