A couple of years ago I got home and there were two massive new car tyres at home that I hadn’t ordered. Label was just wrapped around and was damaged as it had obviously been rubbing the floor of the delvery van. It just said a bit of the name an our village. The wife had signed for them without looking as the delivery guy said that he knew I did work on cars etc and they were probably mine!!
I recognised the name as on private number plate on a X5 with big tyres locally. I went round his house and he came and got them.
So put the name and address on a label where it can be read, inside maybe, not on the sidewall…..

There are also some decent carriers that are upfront about the charges.
I send quite a bit with one who have seperate prices for "un-boxed', 'non-converable', 'liquids' and so on.
It's often cheaper to send something like tyres as unboxed and just slap the lables on them than pay for wrapping materials and time packing them into pairs.
The downside with most carriers like that is if you book the parcel as the wrong thing you will get surcharged and fined for them to change it to the correct service.
I wish all customers were so honest. We have lost over £300k to scammers over the years from the vicars wife claiming £500 for her scratched sideboard she paid £40 for to the pro who does it for a living.
One classic. We shipped a gearbox to a chap. He was on the phone ranting at us. Trying to claim £1200 for his missing gearbox. We sent him the POD with a signature on it. He said nobody lives here with that name. Did a bit of digging. Found a recent planning application for a new patio. That woman's name on it! Funnily enough he went quiet when we asked how his patio was coming on

A few of the carriers do explicitly say in the list of prohibited items that they do not ship car tyres, double check when booking
I've not shipped any but ones I've bought have arrived wrapped in pallet wrap with a label on them

I used Paisley Freight the last time I moved some wheels/ tyres. They were the most reasonable I could find and had some level of damage cover.

Update
I have won 2x ebay auctions. Both from private sellers in england. 2x 15 inch Toyo tyres each giving me a set for my Merc Cossie. One pair is new unused and the other pair has 7mm thread so almost new. (And approx £25 a tyre for a rare size. Ill save about £300 VS local tyre depots for a new set)
Royal mail is what im using - collection. Both sellers agreed to bound the tyres with tape so the postie can stick a label on them. 24hr service to limit chances of damage.
Will see how this goes - fingers crossed.

I thought the biggest you could do with tracked 24 was a 20kg medium parcel?
Parcel Force require tyres to be boxed, and I'd imagine RM policy is similar.
If something is collected that's not been packaged correctly, it's likely to be stuck in a processing centre somewhere as they won't process it.
I briefly worked for them, and some of the stuff that ended up there was laughable.
I think the most memorable one was a washing machine. There were some choice words from management when that appeared, as it should never have even been collected, let along stuck on a lorry to the mail centre

Most of the comment here were saying bare tyres is fine - until now.
I guess itll be the first and last time ill try it as thats likely 2x new tyres gone and 2 other ones that may or may not make it through Evri. Buying from private sellers means I cant be too choosey about packing as im on the back foot.
Both are fully insured so I guess I can try to reclaim my cost or take it as a very expensive lesson.
