Last posts we put in (on, there were only about 6) we loaded up the tractor front bucket with bags of sand and used it as a glorified hammer. We knocked up a pole holder out of planks and fencing wire, which allowed someone to support the post, without being under the loader. Health and safety and all that!
As for the force/energy thing, the force applied will vary with ground conditions, and as mentioned, the post (including its mass). I started to look at the work involved in calculating the force at the post end, but it gets a little too complex, and I'd like to go home before midnight today. There are too many variables and unknowns to even guess at a value.
