Positive or negative dilemma

Hi guys I have just acquired my first dc inverta welder
I have these 3 boxes of rods
And can't work out which way round to put the earth clamp and electric holder ie +or- from the info on the boxs
Any help would be great thanx

If you are running 6013 it doesn't really matter...DCEP is standard, but DCEN works just the same albeit slightly softer arc with a smidge less penetration so can be good for thinner material

Those 6013 will run off a car battery, they aren't fussy at all...DCEN, DCEP or AC...

7018 will run DCEN or DCEP as well, I'm sure some will run on AC but not all...

So basically, you are free to try whatever you want, give both polarity options a try and see how each rod reacts

Just follow the manufacturers instructions.
=- is DCEN, so electrode holder on negative.
= +/- is either DCEP or DCEN
~ is AC

6013 is mostly DCEN only and AC, but usually don't mind DCEP despite it not being on the lable. The rod and weldpool will get hotter running on DCEP.
A lot of low hydrogen rods like 7018 are DCEP only. The ones that can be run on AC are good on DCEN as well.
I have lots of low hydrogen rods from different makes,Böhler, Lincoln, Weldkar 7016,7018,8018,9018 and the DCEP only ones really don't like DCEN.

Note, the below lists are by no means comprehensive and in terms of electrode positive and negative, and penetrationability of different rods, will vary with manufacturer. Open circuit voltages will vary and many rods won't run on a typical 48v buzz-box. With any rod used, the manufacturers data should be at least glanced at to get an idea of how the rod works in use, and current settings etc. They're all different!

If you want any more info on particular rods, ask.

I'd suggest if anyone wants to add notes, do - there are other rod types and uses...
