I'm currently working on filling a joint (if that's what it's called in english)
in the PE position with MMA welding. But the samples I've delivered to xray has come back with a lack of fusion. How can I avoid this? Heard it was quite common as well
there's an example of the metal, just average steel more or less.
Rods are Tenacito 38R, 2,5mm on first weld and 3,2mm the rest angle on the joint(?) is 45 degrees so it's a pretty big gap furthest down.
if the total angle is 45 then try opening this up some more to enable better access for the first fill run.
what the hell is going on in the last picture?
perhaps some other people will be along soon with further advise
good luck and let us know how you get on.
cheers
I'm going to guess that the lack of fusion is mostly on the root run. You could try upping the power a bit, but the main thing I found is the rod has to be pushed quite hard into the joint. I hope that makes sense to you, it's a bit hard to describe, but almost like trying to blow through. The fill and capping runs should be no problem with enough power and a nice tight arc.
The only other thing I can add is keep trying, it will come to you, don't despair.
