I had always wanted to learn toweld, so when I came into a bit of money I bought myself a Portamig 215, it is a great maching, as you may know it is made by the same people that make oxford etc, the bonus of the Portamig is Steve has spec`d them to go down to 15 amps, which is great for thin sheet like car bodywork etc. It had been a great machine, I dont think I would have learnt as easy if it had been a lesser quality machine, but I am limited in knowledge to this one machine, but I would always reccomend the Portamig to anyone.

very much a personal decision as the machines are made by the same company. I decided on the oxford 240 purely because it has capacitors for a smoother weld and the horizontal wire spool on the top of the machine might make loading easier. I haven't been disappointed with it but I probably would have been happy with the portamig as well
I have the portamig 185 from weldequip ,I got it just after Christmas and its a lovely machine to use so I can recommend it but I don't think you will be disappointed with any machine in this price bracket to be honest .Oxford portamig there is nothing in it between these 2
