Hello,
I am an novice welder who a few years ago took the advice of the forum and bought a Portamig 210.
It has done very little work,as I have become very frustrated with it as I seem to spend more time
re-feeding wire that has jammed in it than I do actually welding.
Since day one I have never managed to get it to weld well. Initially I thought it was my inexperience but I am now beginning to think that there has been a problem with the machine from day one.
Can anyone please tell me if the wire drum spool is motor driven and linked to the speed of the wire feeder so that the drum is pushing wire off whilst the roller pulls or does it run freely and therefore relies on the wire feed only to drag wire off the wire roll ?
Having a need to use the welder once again this week ( there was a lot of swearing involved ) I took a look inside with the cover off and noticed that the wire drum seemed to be putting a lot of drag on the wire feeder and not giving a smooth passage of the wire.
I have checked that the roller is on the correct setting for .6mm wire and have tried altering the tension pressure on the roller but whatever I do I struggle to get a smooth wire feed and it occured to me that perhaps the drum spool should perhaps be driven and therefore assisting the the wire feeder ?
....and for some reason mine isn't working ?
Can anyone please advise ?
Thanks
