Now I've finished piddling about with the SIP I got to try it out
Opinions are my own based on frustrations with the other one and are only after just trying various wire speeds at the bottom three power levels (where it will probably spend most of it's time)
Machine set up
0.8mm Wire (yes I am sure)
Agroshield Light
20 gauge steel
Just running beads on steel not trying to weave just looking at penetration and trying to understand the settings - get a feel for the welder basically
I'll take some pictures of the results when it's better light and hopefully at in to this post or post em further down if my edit window expires
First welding Impressions
What a bloody big operating window this machine has!!!
Good looking beads from wire speeds 4-8 on power 1-3 - noticeable differences between the settings but so easy for a novice to recognise when it's too much or too little
Swapping to CO2 (I've got some to use up )
The window narrows considerably and it's harder find the happy spot (when I say harder I mean I can find it but it's the difference between 4 & 5 on the wire feed for a given power setting as opposed to 4-8 on argoshield light)
Other impressions
- I always knew it was big but I'm gonna have to live with the girth - maybe I'll have to buy smaller cars!!
- Not so keen on the Parweld torch - hair trigger in gloved hands but I reckon that's just cos I'm used to another brand of Euro torch (hell they are the same length so I could always swap em over - provide I am doing light stuff as the Parweld is a 25 and my other Euro is a 15 I think)
- It's quiet
- The switch gear is 80's merc - carved from solid granite quality
- The wire feed is super smooth
