Been doing some practice welds today to test out my new torch a 3m version. Was sure the 4m version was causing some wire feed problems. Anyway, connected it and made some lovely welds to start. Thought that the new torch had solved all of my welding problems.
Then all of a sudden I am getting popping and splatter all the time. I have tried speeding up the wire speed and slowing it down from 1 - 9, seems that 1 is the best setting. However I have always been using a wire speed setting of around 4-5 until now. Even so it still welds for about 10 seconds then starts to pop and splatter for about 3 seconds then it settles down again for 10 seconds. I am using pub gas c02 at 10LPM. 0.8 weldability mig wire. and my power is set to 2c 2f. The steel I am using has been ground back to bare metal and is 4mm thick.
After struggling like this for a while all of a sudden the trigger on torch has stopped working. So I took the cover off tapped the connections on PCB and it seemed to sort it for a little while. Just as I was getting fed up with the bad welding going in the torch trigger has stopped working again. Anyone else seen this sort of problem?
