Portal shed roofing

Want to get some more natural light into one of my workshops,is it acceptable to fit fibre glass roof lights side by side,particularly at the eaves? Thanks.

if you have an insulated part you can throw more light around inside of shed

Its not normal to do it that way, Id contact one of the box profile suppliers and ask.

Keep it heated and keep the snow off shouldn't be a problem. Maybe a few extra purlin stays to help stop them twisting.
I've got one panel each side every 5m bay on my portal farm shed and it's plenty light enough during the day. Would've thought that many would be overkill to be honest and may get a tad too hot in summer.

yes depends on how they connect together

@Burdekin he bought the wires to connect to his so they could be connected into one line without a junction box

or you can connect them via junction boxes

hes tried both ways a row of lights on or both sets on depends where your working on

No gaz,these are fibre glass roof lights,as in corrugated sheets!

in your design no

but you can if there was metal above the plastic roof light if in an apex design flat roof is different

however it is far better to alternate between metal and plastic roof lights

I cant see any problem if you run a timber or steel through the middle to stop them drooping

@roofman ,do you mean running down the pitch? None of the existing sag,so does it become more likely when there’s a continuous run of them?

How big are your sky lights, all of ours have a purlin through the middle of them, we've a lot of roof lights but none side by side, it's almost always the roof lights that blow out in the wind or leak first

no right across the middle i mean as they will sag with snow and age

I thought ours were longer and covered 2 spans of the purlins.

I have limited head room so I’ve run a row of strip lights around the edges of the roof. Works quite well. Everything is white so it all reflects around the room.
