If you've still got the brass valve that came out of the cylinder drill it through and solder a brass fitting in to give you the connection of your choice and then screw it back into the bottle.

IIRC the thread is between 3/8 and 1/2 BSP. I also understand that the red propane cylinders have a 1/2 bsp thread.

You'll need to make sure the pressure relief valve to the side is blocked off.

Take care when drilling the valve, there's a spring and a ball bearing in there that could snag the drill.

I made one years ago & the female thread in the top of the cylinder was standard 3/4 BSP, still use it, very useful bit of kit. When I went to pick up the odd car, & went to inflate the tyres people thought I was filling with butane. I used to kid them on by telling them not to smoke near it while I was doing it. A 13 kilo cylinder filled to about 110 psi will inflate about 3 tyres dependant on the size

the threaded boss in the cyl is 3/4, a 3/4 bsp barrel nipple screws in very easily and can actually start from inside ie when you cut the top off, you can screw in barrel nipple from the 'wrong' end of the female.
ps this is a very dangerous practise as whenever I have screwed it in from the wrong end of the female I have got a slap-------.

When I did mine I screwed a 3/4 x1/2 reducing hex nipple in, then a 1/2 tee, that allowed me to fit 2 PCL couplings using 1/2 by 1/4 bushes then used it as a receiver on a home made fridge compressor. The hose from the compressor had a male PCL & plugged in. This meant I could pump up the tank & disconect it for tyres etc.

rtb comp, do you mean soft solder the brass fitting in? that would be nice and easy once drilled out.
i have got a propane cyl which would be easier due to the 3/4 thread but it is quite small and the butane one i've used is a good size and it's never going to be used for gas again.

I just used ordinary plumbers solder.

When I made mine I just used a nut off a regulator and the stub that screws into the regulator pick one that has the coarse thread some are very fine the coarse ones are 1/4 bsp you can screw onto that a pcl QR female coupling and you have your tap and a connection for the airline, to blow it up I have two 'pcl males', one with a female thread the other male screw them together, and that is your inflation point.
