portable mig ?

I'm considering getting a small portable mig for repairs on boat cabins , all 4 mm, where the welds need to look nice rather than structural. And I want to run it off a 6 kVA avr Diesel generator . I want a no frills industril machine, possibly secondhand .

Any suggestions ?

I often handball my R-Tech 250-1 mig plant on-site doing gates and other specifics running it from a genny set. Once the cylinder is detached and the 15kg wire spool are off it is portable enough. I weld 8 & 10mm thick with it for around 24 hours a week both on site and in the workshop and I have never once in two years tripped the thermal cut out on the set.

Does the Kemppi minarcmig 200 not suit or the esab? Use my minarcmig out on site all of the time and highly recommend it. Gets chucked in the back of the van and never misses a beat. Have run it on a 6kva honda petrol generator many times. AVR is a must as you say

I was using my minarc 180 making doors today, running it off 50m extension lead.....great bit of kit for out and about.

I wasn't sure if inverter MIG's liked running off geny's.

Most portable mig like the esab caddy or kempi version are built with genny running in mind. I note a lot of work on new barges is done with cored wires rather than gas shielding now.
At 4 mm I should personally use a 2.5 7018 and stick weld them and have many times- switching up to 3.2 mm for rubbing strip and leading edges
Couple of hundred quid and you have the entire kit and it's far more portable
