Seems to Depend on how flat the battery is.

We've got a Lidl one and as long as the battery has some life, it'll get a 2l petrol car going.

Not tried it on anything bigger, or diesels, so I don't know if it's got the oomph to get heavy stuff going.

But if its totally dead it won't even try. I'd guess that there's some electronics in there that needs to register a certain voltage before it'll work?

I have a cheapy one not from a supermarket, supposed to do upto a 5 ltr diesel….think its like the Chinese heaters, about half the output of the label. But as above, so long as its not completely dead will get a 2.5 ltr pickup going.

Hold its charge well over time too

I have a Lidl one, I was asked to start a car that had been parked for 12 months, nothing in the battery whatsoever, completely dead. It started it straight up several times & still showed full charge. I didn’t expect it to start it once, let alone several times. I was well impressed.

The ones that I have, have a small button on the side of the part that plugs into the main part.
If you press it, it bypasses the low voltage no start feature for 30 seconds.
The manual didn't mention it.

Overpriced rubbish I believe, abusing the fact that Li cells can give out enourmous currents when shorted although the voltage out will severly sag. Would ideally have 4x the capacity to be any good.
Also note its 12v, it wont boost up to 14.7v to get any charge into the flat battery.
Neighbour has one of the expensive Noco things, garbage when they needed it.

Appears to be a 4 cell x 3000mAh LiFePO4 pack so not very much energy in it.

While it wont jump start, I often use a powertool battery with a LiPo charger to get some juice into a car before attempting to start a flat. It takes a few minutes to get some surface charge in a LA but it always works.

I've had a Halfords one for a couple of years. Described as 'up to two litres', cost about £60 at the time. Has been brilliant on small petrol engines, and got me and others out of trouble. Can't comment on Lidl or diesel, but the principle is good.

Have got a Noco, think they’re great, started the digger with it a few days ago no problem at all with a completely cut flat battery. Well worth the money in my opinion

Currently on sale at Halfords for £121 - still more than twice the price of the Lidl version and I have no clue whether it's half as good or twice as good.
One bonus is that a decent laptop charger (~90W) will recharge the booster in around 45 minutes.

If you do happen to get one, make sure you charge it up after every use as they certainly dont have much space capacity and performance will be poor if its not full.

I've got a Noco GB50 Boost XL that started the Surf (3.0 diesel 4 pot) with two almost completely flat batteries, it didn't turn over that fast but it did start it.
There's a boost button on it that needs pressing for more power.

Interestingly it says it will start a 1250A battery compared to the Lidl's claim of 600A. Of course, either or both could be exagerating.

On the charging - yes, absolutely. When charged it seems to hold that charge for weeks at a time (I bring it in every month or so and give it a zap) but when it is used, the four indicator lights immediately drop to one light or two so clearly it is all sucked out when doing a cold start.

The Lidl is LiFePO4 tech and I think the Noco is normal LiPo. The Lidl should last a lot longer but peak current for that tech is much less, but safer and lasts twice as long. Neither have very much lithium capacity inside - a 5A tool battery has much more (wrong voltage so dont try it!).

I looked at the Lidl and a few others, the mention of not starting a completely flat battery put me off many of them. Kids bought me a Noco Boost 150 for Christmas.
Cant fault it, stated the Digger with a totally dead battery no problem

Yeah - the Noco has an override that won’t try to “read” the battery - it will just send 15v into the system at peak power.
Mine has started my car (which has a 600A battery) when my neighbour’s fully charged 300A battery wouldn’t get it to even turn over.

I get that @Kram is a fan of the Lidl and I have no reason to diss it so am just commenting on how impressed I am with the (notably more expensive) Noco

Im not a fan of either!!! They dont have the battery capacity to be a good reliable product. People seem to like them, but I seen a few not working when needed and I know why...

A couple of these in parallel and jump leads would be my choice and at 16.8Ah, 30C would give a real 500A and 1000A in burst (under 5 seconds perhaps)

Theres probably a better shop than HK, I never really played with RC stuff.

To be honest I prefer the idea of a 2T chainsaw attachement with a belt driven tyre compressor /12v generator. I may have to make one up as I generally keep a saw In the boot due to lack of space a ywhere else... cs340, tho it is a bit big. One of the cheap £70 top handles would do the job.
