Portable bandsaw ?

I have 59 strawberry trollies to cut in half,prior to extending,I did the first by cutting with a thin disc,I’m thinking this may be more efficient with a hand held saw,less pinching on the disc,no shower of sparks.
On each,there’s 8 cuts in 19 diameter tube and 2 cuts in 19 diameter solid.
Can the saw be operated with one hand ,just before breaking thru,whereby the other hand is holding the frame from pinching the blade?
I don’t mind a chance purchase as I see other benefits of clean mobile cutting AND it’s nice to buy new tools.

Have you tried a reciprocating saw? Might be do the job.

Tbh I think a grinder is probably your best choice

Yes, 9" grinder would fly through them in no time.

I think the bandsaw would nip even more than a disc.
Grinder would be my choice.

Make a simple jig / clamp to grab either side of the intended cut, then slice with impunity using a 9" grinder

That is a good idea.

It might be possible to put bungees on the trolley from either side putting the parts you are cutting into tension so they spring apart rather than close up.

How much is a 4 /2" grinder disk if it pinches and destroys the blade? How much is a portaband blade if it pinches and snaps the blade?

whilst that design is ok for stacking 3 baskets of punnets of strawberrys the 4th one will make it unsafe to use

its also poorly designed for pulling and putting away as its 4 fixed wheels that would state it stays in the open air

the issue is loading and unloading of the baskets whilst its fine with 3 baskets the 4th would split the frame rather well when loading or unloading those strawberry baskets

No problem @gaz1 ,I made these 6 years ago,60 of them,they’ve worked successfully with several hundred fruit pickers!
I’m just extending them as a new wholesaler has different sized trays,it copes admirably with 4 x15kg trays,although I’m now making it into a sprung frame as the new wheels are solid. Yes stored outside all that time.
Are you criticising for the sake of commenting?

A pipe cutting recip saw may do the trick, clamps to one side.

not for the sake of commenting

its because im used to the pull out trays and wholesale trolleys and also the delivery trucks that stack many trays within them

slide in tray trolleys are far superior and you can stack much more on them theya re also more stable and as trays become empty they can be collected reveiling the next tray below

depending on the size of the tray you should beable to stack 4-5 high on the trolley



the owner musnt care for there workers as lifting and lowering those trays is back breaking work compared to slide on trays its why many wholesalers have done away with them for that reason
