Porosity in GTAW Welds

Great advice here. I didn’t know knife/feather edges could be causing problems. Can I ask why that is please just out of curiosity. Cheers

Mild steel does not like being welded with no filler, the feather edge just burns away introducing impurities/porosity, keep the filler in and it works fine, its easier to have a 1/2mm landing where the weld sits better, (probably a poor explanation) hope it makes sense though.

just sort of flares up as the metal burns back it might be swaged over at the edge holding remains of abrasives
