Let's not be naive - they called it a 'race tuner' because the word 'race' appeals to people and so does being able to brag that they 'race tuned' their own bike. Plus they sold 340,000 of them so they can't really argue that it was aimed and intended solely for race use.

They came up with some slick product marketing and have shot themselves in the foot in the process.

Bet they wished they had stuck to the chrome gee gaws and leather waistcoat type of accessories...................lol

Even if we want vehicles that pass the MOT there's no justification for fiddling the emissions, like we wouldn't cover corroded brake pipes in underseal to hide their condition.

I totally agree with you about the corroded brake pipes, that is a safety issue and shouldn't be bodged.

The problem with emissions testing is that it in no way replicates how we actually use our vehicles, so not only can a ECU be programmed to beat the test but that any test results bears no relation to what may or may not come out of the exhaust pipe as we drive around and is therefore pointless.

The emission test needs to be changed so that it closely replicates actual driving by putting a load onto the engine, either by using a rolling road or actual driving on the public highway. Once the test achieves that it will be harder to cheat and more relevant.

The cheat was not to pass a MOT test (smoke test)
It was to meet up with the rolling road (nasty gas emissions)
The MOT smoke test is a joke really . cars fitted with DPF filters wont even give a reading
VW can not even be revved up above 2000 when stationary.
It is only the older generation that give a reading
It is a brave tester that takes a 15 year old diesel up to the governor speed

I think it's fairly safe to assume all the manufacturers are at it .
Whatever was wrong with carbs and magnetos or them modern points and coils ??

Doubleboost it would be a very brave mot tester that takes my 20 year old Toyota anywhere near the rev limiter!
It would also probably be his last.
