The new host ought to supply a decent set of instructions online, detailing setups with the better known email clients. Why not use webmail, and use IMAP for the client? That way, the web version ofthe mailbox can be synchronised with the client version. Main issues are usually port numbering and authentication settings.

pop can be problematic if you try and collect the emails from multiple sources. It was designed as a single user account and the spec says that the first person to open it locks it against connection by others. some email hosting services respond better than others when using multi device access
just saying in case you are collecting from phone, pc, tablet etc. in which case you are better off learning how to use IMAP access which isn't significantly different to pop but was designed for multi access from the get go

well I have used mailtraq for over 10 years but it was set up by the author. I have learnt quite a bit over the time so i can add users and recover lost emails etc but repair afx files etc BUT mailtraq has come to the end of its life and the support forums have been taken down.
I was always able to view and in some cases delete stuck email using various programs such as pop3viewer popman but I can no longer connect with any of these programs. Support is trying to blame windows 7 saying microsoft no longer support it BUT they have given me a solution because they think my system cant cope with TLS 1.2. However the registry was already set to use it....
I can get mail via Gmail and I can see the mail via webmail as I have a reseller account. I have only had this issue since switching hosting as Hostgator was more expensive and support was next to useless. I am now with GURU.
As suggested below I am happy to learn IMAP if its the way to go especially as mailtraq is no longer supported but I dont know what mailserver software to use ?? This one has been suggested https://www.hmailserver.com/forum/ but I am not sure yet.
Anyway I would rather work out WHY its not allowing me to access the mail ...as I have been told I need ssl and port 995 instead of port 110 but that does not work still.

This image above does concern me about ports but the one below shows how its configured.
The biggest issue seems to be Gmail... with the settings I am using in all the other programs Gmail works but nothing else....which might tie in with the comments from Morewellie.
yeah they do and following those I got Gmail connected.

Hello,
To connect to any mailbox located on GURU you would need to connect securely.
Settings are below, for your information you can obtain the mailbox settings via cPanel > Email Accounts and next to the mailbox in question you will see 'Connect Devices' click that and the mail client configuration settings will be displayed.
For instance details for paypal mailbox
Secure SSL/TLS Settings (Recommended)
Username: paypal@westmidland-internet.co.uk
Password: Use the email account’s password.
Incoming Server: mail.westmidland-internet.co.uk
IMAP Port: 993 POP3 Port: 995
Outgoing Server: mail.westmidland-internet.co.uk
SMTP Port: 465
IMAP, POP3, and SMTP require authentication.

BUT.....as I pointed out above it probably would be easy for me to use IMAP once I find what mailserver to use however I always like to solve WHY its not working in case I need to work out something in the future.
when you say use webmail coulkd you expand a bit more..I can use webmail in Cpanel to read but I need to sort mail to get it into forte agent etc.

You might be a bit confused
If you have set the individual email accounts up on a guru server then you don't need hmailserver as that is the type of email program that someone like guru might use to set up the individual email accounts. Unless you are trying to avoid using the guru email accounts and trying to do it all yourself
Gmail can be used to collect emails from pop email accounts as an alternative to using a client program such as outlook or thunderbird
Pop and IMAP are protocols that the client program would use to collect the incoming emails from the aerver

Also forte agent is primarily a news stream reader rather than an email client and therefore wouldn't necessarily be as good at just managing emails as thunderbird or outlook

Ok I am not actually as confused as it might look. lol
Explaining it to everyone might be confusing.
I started running mailtraq as I was part of Blueyonder users and we distributed Emails between us. I was backup in case the main guy keeled over.
Hence i USED FORTE Agent from 1994 where I have all the mail ever sent to me from then.
so mailtraq collected mail and I used forte agent to collect from there and I read it on forte agent after it was filtered into folders.
To read from there I need to be on my main PC.....now I spend more time away I started to use Gmail with one email as my primary address BUT I also have a fair number of other accounts (various websites on my reseller account with host gator) that I used mailtraq to collect. And forte agent to read.
I ALSO use Gmail to collect mail from those accounts I need to access while out and about.....this has more evolved as Gmail did not exist years ago.
The way I do it I have a belt and braces approach of all my email in TWO main places...... PLUS I can access each account I have on my websites via Cpanel webmail.
The reason I have never used IMAP is pop3 collection has always worked on hostgator....I expected it to work on GURU.
Currently I dont have any email accounts set up on GURU with the exception of my westmidland-internet site as they were transferred when the ported my site across.
how do I get a pop3 connection without security???
Thats how it was on my old hosts...but it does not work on GURU.

I think the problem is potentially forte agent, try accessing the account from thunderbird or some other email client but remember to tick the box to leave the email on the server if you want to give yourself future options
well the problem is with all the mail clients and viewers I have tried. It looks like mailtraq is also dead in the water as prior to receiving your reply I had indeed tried thunderbird and it connected instantly. So you were spot on.
It would seem the latest email protocols cant handle existing older pop3 collections from mailtraq or many other viewers.
I would have liked to have worked out exactly why for my own inquisitive mind but I have too much on currently to waste time on finding out why.
