Copart offer a workshop service where you hire a bay for the day, they bring the vehicle you bought to you at the bay and you strip it, you remove all the parts you want and they issue the certificate to say its been recycled accordingly, you do need a van to take your tools and to bring your components home.

Sadly if you need a van for work - you are better off buying new and swapping every three years when they are out of warranty.

The problem with this strategy is the cost.

This is the reason - the two vans I got are 2008 and 2011 vintage (Both VW Crafters).


Have you seen the price of a new Crafter/Sprinter/Iveco - it is eye watering....

We do. But already been quoted 2k from my local reliable garage, and the question is, is it worth it? It's 2004 and 215k on the clock. We use it once or twice a year as a micro camper, it has no rear seats, and the rest of the time it is the family go everywhere vehicle and my haul lumps of steel around vehicle.

It's looking like we'll go for a new one under the motability scheme. We could have done it ages ago but it didn't seem like the best solution. Revisiting it now, it begins to look quite attractive. A new Tourneo is within our budget, would do everything we need witj no worries about anything and give 60mpg, which I struggle to imagine!

I've driven a transit custom (same platform) got 45 on a run. Driven a transit connect (again same platform as the tourneo connect) and get 41 at best

Oh that's quite different! Is that the 1.5 zetec?

I've had several of Ford's engines. The current one is indeed the 1.5 in a connect, the 100hp version. I get high 30's day to day, might get as high as 55 on the motorway if I really baby it.
