I am curious to know what effect aeration has on the citric acid cleaning process.

All the bubbles are coming through the deck face cooling holes from the waterways within the block. In case you are wondering, a squirt of washing up liquid was added as a trial to break down any oil residue.

After a steam clean, the flash rusting looks awful but the waterways are very good compared to what they were. It is back in for a final dip tonight then I have an idea to try that might help reduce the flash rusting.

Dip it in a bucket of bicarbonate to neutralise the acid.

That won't stop the flash rust.

That seems to work, dunked it in the diluted antifreeze drained from the E-Type I'm working on.
