Polishing fibreglass tank cover

Hi fellas,

I've got a fibreglass tank cover on a 27,000L tanker that needs polishing (it was red but it's started to go pink) and I'm looking for a suitable polisher.
I've got about £150/£200 to spend, but would be looking for a complete kit, ready to add polish and go.

Also, am I wasting my time polishing it?

Would a respray be the order of the day (It doesn't go out much)?

I've been quoted £2500 to have it resprayed (and a small crack repaired), is that a fair price?

Any Ideas?

Unless you`ve got all the time (and your going to need plenty) i`d say go for the repaint

Gotta be honest, trying to polish that will seriously drive you insane!!

I'd say go for the repaint. FYI, I used to work for a bodyshop back in the early 90's, this was a commercial body/paint shop, we used to paint Courage Trailers, and at that time the price to paint a 40' trailer curtain sider was £3000, so I'd say £2500 was cheap!!

does the fibreglass have gelcoat on it ?
if you have a machine polisher get the correct polish for gelcoat and away you go
look at it this way respray £2500
10 hours polishing is equivalent to paying yourself £250 per hour to keep hold of your £2500

I run a polishing firm in northants. If you can get it to me I'll polish it back cheaper than a respray. PM me if you are interested.
