though I feel we may have gone off on a tangent
We did take to carrying something heavy to hand if we really had to go anywhere on our own, although a fair amount of the locals were visibly tooled up , and I wasn't going to start looking hard enough to see if they were replicasI think you should be allowed to just inflict some pain back at them. little ba***rds will learn the hard way that's for sure. big ones and all.
it's the biggest problem with are system. we are far to soft. Empty threats make people look like a joke and more and more people take the pi** because of it
Agreed, apologiesthough I feel we may have gone off on a tangent
only when its them getting shot atI thought the uk police were much tougher with that sort of nonsense than that.
Apparently he was sat in the van reading the paper, and scrote number one knocked on and asked for a light, soon as he rolled the window down scrote grabbed his arm and held him while he held a knife to his throat with the other hand, and 4 lads emptied the back of the van. His mate came out of the block to find him in shock curled up in the foot wellI had a scrote pull a knife on me after I caught him breaking into my girlfriend's car (a Skoda Rapid)... all I can say is anyone else who tries it had better just stick it in and start twisting because they won't get the second chance that tosser did (fisticuffs, sirens - luckily for me - leggit).
urrrgh, sod welding underwater. that sounds like taking a wonderful job and just making it unnecessarily horrible... Though it is pretty impressive none the less.
Technical Al, did the plastic coated rods work??
I was talking to an old rig welder not so long ago and he was telling me that you could use normal rods taped up with insulation tape to keep them dry, do you think he was pulling my leg technicAL, or would this be feasable? Not that I plan on doing any underwater work by the way!
I almost applied for the summer job on the Antarctic survey doing the repairs etc, I really wish I had and in fact I might still do!Anyways.. Back on topic
Maker, it was a station that took readings for upper atmospheric research, ice shelf monitoring and penguin bothering. Here's a little shot of myself fitting some towing eyes to a container sledge in around -25c. The little mosa screamer set that I was using needed leaving inside all night to keep it warm and then starting inside before trying to keep it running all day!
Like this?Finger in the eye

It was Halley I was looking at! Like I say it was summer though, I think mrs dan would kill me if I was away for 18 monthsI overwintered at Halley, we were the last wintering team in Halley 5 before it was decommissioned. I'd go back for a summer but I'd never winter again. 18 months away from home stuck with 10 other people is tough! At least there was plenty of out of date beer there!
Maybe I'll have a go again next year , I imagine it'll look good on any cv!Built not bought - All of the information you are after can be found at https://www.bas.ac.uk/polar-operations/life-in-the-polar-regions/
